It’s a beautiful night and I’m drinking an amazing bottle of Sokol Blosser Meditrina {7} with the family. Looking across the Columbia River at the snow on Mt Hood as it turns from pink to purple as the sun sets. Meditrina is a very drinkable blend of Syrah, Zinfandel, and Pinot Noir. It’s going well with pizza and I give it an 89.
I can never spend too much time in the Willamette Valley.

Just pulled a bottle LAN Rioja from 2003 out of the wine cave. This Spanish Tempranillo is “lights-out” amazing! Deeply immersed in March Madness basketball and eating take-out pizza, I could be drinking beer. But why settle. Yes, I’m a writer and I just started a sentence with “But.” This rich bottle of liquid red goodness is great with pizza and would stand up to one of my favorite steaks at Daniel’s. It’s big, but not overwhelming with a smooth finish.
I give it a solid 92.

I was blown away tonight by this amazing red wine from Valle de Colchagua in Chile from 2008. It has a deep purple color with a fragrant combination of mocha and black cherry. This is an incredibly smooth and balanced wine that’s drinkable by itself, with a pizza or even a steak.
Best of all, it’s only $8 so you can go out and buy a few cases. Do yourself a favor and give this one a try with one of your favorite cigars. I give it a solid 91.
